tours in dublin ireland
This tour of my home suburb of Glasnevin, in North central Dublin, is perfect for those who have seen downtown Dublin and want to experience the peace and quiet of a leafy suburb.
Home to the National Botanical Gardens, the National Cemetery and the now world famous Gravediggers Pub, Glasnevin is a mere 20 minutes from the capital by taxi.
glasnevin cemetery tour
Dating back to 1832, Glasnevin Cemetery is the largest cemetery on the island.
Designed in the Victorian garden style, it is the resting place of Irish patriots Daniel O’Connell and Michael Collins among many other notable figures.
It was the site of 19th century graverobbing – stealing of bodies from graves – and is even featured in the writings of James Joyce.

Right next door is the National Botanical Gardens, founded in 1795.
This beautiful site features a wide variety of plants, trees and shrubs from around the world such as cacti, palm trees in the distinctive glasshouses.
As well as florae you can see statues, a reconstructed Viking Age house and get up close with timid squirrels.
dublin private tours
No visit to Glasnevin would be complete without ending up in the Gravediggers pub, which has the best Guinness in Dublin and therefore the world.
The pub dates back to 1833 and apart from electricity and running water, little has changed since then.
Excellent tapas are available if you would like to have lunch or dinner (Tuesday to Saturday only) which prompted visitor Anthony Bourdain to remark “heaven looks like this”.
The bar is dog friendly so if you’re a fan of our furry friends there is a chance you may encounter a hairy local.
If wine and delicious olives are more your thing, there is also a cool wine bar within short walking distance.
You can select if you would like lunch, early dinner or the wine bar (Tuesday to Saturday from 2pm only) in the booking form below.
One round of drinks in the pub is included in the tour price, food and the wine bar are extra.
